Position Summary:

The Database Administrator is responsible for reviewing application data models, reviewing database performance and tuning all resulting in solutions which meet functional requirements, are flexible, can scale to the enterprise-level, and are resilient to failure. The DBA is also expected to work closely with the Services, ETL, UI/UX, Architecture and other team(s) and/or personnel through various stages of the SDLC. Keen interest in learning and keeping up with latest technology platforms to contribute productively to system design and future-proofing implementations is also essential to success in the role.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Articulate and/or translate business problem statements to data requirements to proactively work on design and analysis prior to system design for timely delivery
  • Understand and review existing data models and patterns to identify improvements, recommend improvements in functionality, performance, etc.
  • Ideate and develop multiple options for any given problem and present with sound logic and reasoning
  • Recommend and present analysis on platforms of choice for application database, event data stores, data warehouses, reporting, archival, etc., as required
  • Develop data migration strategies for moving, duplicating, retiring data from legacy systems to new applications
  • Understands application code and functions and ensures database features are leveraged
  • Works closely with application team to ensure physical data structures meets application scalability and performance needs
  • Develop database related code (archiving and purging scripts and deploy)
  • Review database queries and recommend query optimization and tuning
  • Perform DDL changes and deploy to Prod
  • Coordinate the Infrastructure requirement for moving from Stage to Production
  • Participate in technical discussions and provide inputs wherever DBA is required
  • Database Security, Monitoring and Availability
  • Backup and Restores
  • Performance Management & tuning

Minimum Position Qualifications:

  • 5 or more years’ experience with requirements and system analysis, system design, data modeling and data architecture.
  • Proven communication and presentation skills to effectively communicate information to stakeholders at all levels within the organization.
  • Ability to interact well in a team environment.
  • Proficient in using and designing with ERwin Data Modeler for SQL Server, Cassandra, Kafka, MS Azure Databases and Data Stores, or other similar technologies.
  • Well-versed with the concepts and application of entity definition, idempotency, normalization/de-normalization of relational models, naming convention, data types, dimensional modeling and modeling for key-value based databases.
  • Demonstrates solid understanding of architectural components and system design principles for effective contribution to all design discussions.

Desired Previous Job Experience

Computer Sciences, IT or IS related associate degree, or a bachelor's degree, or comparable work experience in an Information Systems position or related
