Technical Product Manager Job Summary:

This position will be the Technical Product Manager for a specific product line and is the internal advocate, process owner and bridge between Development and Product Management.  Tight collaboration with the associated Product Manager/Director is essential to ensuring complete execution and success of the product line.  Their focus is to drive technical execution and documentation while keeping aligned with and managing to the Product Vision.  Direct reports can include Business Analysts, Solution Analysts and/or other associated technical portfolio management staff. Has responsibility for directing activity of a single iteration development team.


Technical Product Manager Job Responsibilities:

Arbitration between Product Management and Development

  • Ensure vision is realized and functionality is available as expeditiously as possible.
  • Ensures the creation of product features and story creation.
  • Ensures the creation of use cases or scenarios, test cases and meaningful stories to meet business objectives and release strategy.
  • Accountable for managing development issues and escalating as necessary issues.
  • Ensures high level technical support through BAs and SAs when appropriate.
  • Executes Backlog management with Portfolio BAs.
  • Brokers technical capabilities and capacity versus the business needs.
  • Act as the primary information resource for the product teams by being knowledgeable in both the business with the technical to ensure business capabilities and features are being realized.
  • Staff Leadership
  • Directly manages and leads Portfolio Business Analyst, System Analyst and potentially other ancillary staffing
  • Hiring of staff
  • Develop appropriate performance review objectives
  • Provide day-to-day coaching and assist staff with individual development planning
  • Conduct annual performance reviews
  • Communicate and interpret organizations policies
  • Collaboration with Product Director
  • Execute product enhancement strategy set forth by Product Director and/or ITS senior management
  • Ensure features and milestones are prioritized and executed
  • Assist in developing, managing and monitoring product line budgets
  • Manage and oversee Work Groups, User Groups and Beta tests

  • Collaboration with Iteration Manager
  • Create an acceptable project plan and ultimately accountable for creating milestone release schedules
  • Maintain detailed status dashboard for all products under ownership and is accountable for product development communications to all parties

 

Technical Product Manager Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree- Master’s Degree Preferred
  • 10+ related experience
  • Agile Experience- minimum of 2-3 years’ experience
  • 3 years’ experience in a technology environment required (development and/or technical business analysis)
  • 3 years Product/Portfolio Management- ensures product vision is realized and functionality is available; managing development issues; knowledgeable in both the business a technical to ensure business capabilities and features are being realized
