Job Description - Taxonomy Analyst:

The primary responsibility of the Taxonomy Analyst is to ensure products we sell have consistent and relevant product information in order for customers to make informed buying decisions. The Taxonomy Analyst must possess a strong sense of reasoning and a drive to research differences between products in order the create an intuitive classification model. While being a product subject matter expert is a plus, it is imperative that the Taxonomy Analyst have the capability to learn and comprehend new information for current and future decisions.

Responsibilities - Taxonomy Analyst: 

Identify Business Needs:

  • Identify user requirements and business needs by researching and analyzing user needs, preferences, objectives, and working methods. 
  • Study how downstream users, teams, and systems consume product information including data categorization and labeling. 
  • Plan and implement information architecture by studying the concept, strategy, and target audience; develop architectural scheme, information structure and features, with consideration to functionality, user-interface design, and future intended use. 
  • Help develop and apply best-in-class organizing taxonomy principles for various facets of the industry. 

Create and Maintain Data Models and Schema:

  • Determine standard attribution models and schemas for our internal Product Information Management system. 
  • Work independently and collaboratively to coordinate and solve highly complex technical data communication and data transformation issues. 
  • Remodel existing information structures for optimal web classification & search ranking. 
  • Map and integrate product data between Product Information Management systems, external spreadsheets, or other data sources. 
  • Design information structures based on customer scenarios and information representation requirements. 
  • Analyze schema values and normalize taxonomies and schemas across hierarchies to meet minimum standards. 

Managing Data:

  • Perform data profiling activities to identify noncompliant data, de-duplicate and cleanse inconsistent and redundant data, validate data against standards, and correct data to conform to policies. 
  • Manipulate and transform large sets of product data for use in systems or per user needs. 
  • Validate information delivery by developing and completing usability test plans. 
  • Drive process for monitoring and analyzing information architecture changes.   
  • Analyze and identify impact of downstream systems 

Set Standards and Make Recommendation:

  • Develop standards and business rules for information structures and integrations to manage proper data usage. 
  • Work with SMEs to determine industry standards and best practices and apply company-wide data governance and quality standards.
  • Participation in special projects and performs additional duties as required. 

Education - Taxonomy Analyst:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communications, Data Science, or Data Analytics.   
  • Skilled knowledge and experience developing and maintaining information models and product information systems. 
  • Experience with the use and application of the most current technologies and products used in the industry. 
  • At least two years of experience mapping data structures in an online, B2B, or retail environment. 
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft technologies and environments. 
  • Knowledge of taxonomy management software a plus but not required.
