Operational Support Engineer Job Summary:

This position is for a mid-level support engineer that will provide primarily support of data operations in AWS and on-prem hosted platforms for Market Regulation. Supported platforms include UNIX, Windows, Oracle, AWS S3, AWS EC2, AWS EMR, AWS Cloudwatch, AWS RDS, AWS SQS, etc…

This engineer should be able to perform application data operations activities for both on premise data centers and AWS services, which includes the processing of market volumes of big data. Work involves monitoring batch processing, data processing, management / remediation of issues, and escalation activities. Work also includes automation tasks of data monitoring using Python scripting. Usage of central batch processing tools like JAMS or any other equivalent is valuable to have. Mid-level experience in running SQL database queries is needed.

Operational Support Engineer Job Requirements:

  • 5-6 years’ experience providing support for Linux systems. This includes assisting application teams with assessing issues and troubleshooting deployments.
  • AWS experience is a must. At FINRA we are rapidly expanding the application footprint in AWS. We are utilizing many services provided by AWS and are continuously evolving as AWS evolves. Having experience supporting applications in AWS at an enterprise level is desired. Specifically working with EC2, S3, RDS, EBS Volumes, ELB and Security Groups is a must.
  • AWS RDS SQL database experience and building/running queries is a must.
  • Knowledge of setup/provisioning of server environments in support of application purposes. While this does not include the actual build activity of servers, it does include working with application teams to develop requirements and then submitting those requirements to build teams and following up until the servers are delivered. This includes reviewing log files, application servers/services.
  • Systems integration experience desirable. There are many integrated applications at FINRA. This position will provide support to application teams to establish connectivity between systems during design and development. This includes working with the network team for firewall support between systems as well as users and systems.
  • Scripting experience is required. Scripting in Python is desired. FINRA has a very mature automated deployment pipeline for deploying applications through their development lifecycles. Scripting technologies are utilized to support those activities. Some examples are Python and Perl.
  • Experience deploying applications is preferred, and experience with automated deployment tools is a plus.
  • Experience with distributed compute (e.g., Spark or Hadoop), storage (relational databases such as Postgres or MySQL, horizontally-scalable non-relational databases such as HBase, Riak, or Cassandra), and search infrastructure (such as ElasticSearch or Solr/Lucene)
  • Experience in horizontally scaling a production environment by an order of magnitude, ideally in a startup or other rapid-growth environment

 

* Please note that, this position’s required work hours are for the night shifts (9PM – 5AM, 3AM – 11AM), which will provide coverage of overnight batch data processing. The position requires residence in the US with a valid work visa; although remote work and/or out of state work is allowed. 2 months of in office attendance is required for training prior to any remote work being granted. *
