Job Summary:

This position will support an administrative office in the review and negotiation of complex clinical trial budgets and payment term arrangements for clinical research funding received from federal sponsors as well as private for-profit and not-for profit sponsors, including business, industry, associations, and foundations in order to initiate clinical trial research.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Draft and negotiate industry and federally-sponsored clinical trial budgets and payment terms and other types of budgets that are consistent with federal and state law
  • Develop facts, back-up material, and rationale required for a successful budget negotiation
  • Articulate and negotiate with industry representatives
  • Communicate and coordinate with departmental managers and directors
  • Consult with contract managers, clinical teams, research administration, and industry representatives regarding substantive issues arising from individual clinical projects
  • Consult with and advise on financial issues regarding the clinical trial agreements
  • Revise agreements as necessary and ensure proper routing for signature and disposition thereafter
  • Research and remain current on clinical trial budgeting, rate and contractual issues arising under state law, federal research-related guidelines, budget development and contracting policies and guidelines, and the wide variety of policies related to appropriate and compliant conduct of research
  • Perform administrative duties within CPO (Clinical Protocol Office) including development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) for contract negotiation and participating in focus groups to refine processes
  • Exhibit ongoing leadership and process management to ensure timely processing of budgets and contracts to align with timelines

Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in a clinical trial setting with industry sponsors and/or with negotiation of a variety of industry funded clinical agreements
  • Working knowledge of budgets and general contracts
  • Demonstrated ability to independently negotiate and communicate effectively, efficiently and diplomatically, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to multi-task, and prioritize high-volume work load with minimal supervision while maintaining a positive and collaborative approach
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external offices and individuals. Flexibility, a "can-do" mindset, and the ability to function in an entrepreneurial research setting are essential
  • Experience with complex Microsoft Excel models and budgeting
